Luis Loz (Lima, 1977) has been composing and producing music for over ten years with the indubitable protagonist of his melodies: the piano. After a long solitary creative process, fertile and instructive, he incorporates himself in the local indie scene in Lima in 2014. Loz uses melodic and harmonic resources that allow him to compose timeless themes, difficult to pigeonhole and with a simplicity to which few can arrive. We find in his work, a plethora of influence, musicians and bands from very different eras and origins such as Tindersticks, Lambchop, Parade and Destroyer, to mention the most current ones; and other timeless, elegant, but casual artists such as Federico Moura (Argentina) or Serge Gainsbourg (France).
In his verses, paradox, sarcasm and poetics coexist, concatenated to everyday situations, nostalgia in the space-time of an urban character, which speaks of the mixture between humor and melancholy that reflects his life, much like a jungle forged between the cement of the buildings and sidewalks. Nostalgia, death and indifference merge to confront defeat and the absurd. What he communicates to us, is framed in melodies that evoke feelings diametrically opposed to them, generating scenarios of subtle contradiction.
Mi Muerte Social was produced by Nico Saba (Kanaku and El Tigre, Los Conchas Negras) and mixed by Alonso Bentin (Korea). The album is composed of 11 songs, of which the singles “Camas separadas” (a duet with the singer Pamela Rodríguez, twice nominated for the Latin Grammy) and “Ratas gigantes” have been released in 2016. The album features collaborations with (instruments and voice) Peruvian musicians of such as: Rafo de la Cuba, Nico Saba, Crimson Sinclair, Pamela Rodriguez and the cellist Fil Uno.
The renowned Peruvian professional José Antonio Mesones, “Goster”, designed the cover. Last year, he received two nominations for Best Graphic Art for Cover of a Record. December 2017 marked the premiere of the music video for the single “Camas Separadas” directed by the talented Peruvian Rodrigo Moreno Del Valle.
