Alex Sharkey is the singer songwriter also known as ‘Pinkie’, who creates songs of earnest beauty with simply arranged melodies that might just break your heart. He has an illustrious past, having been a member of indie pop-legends Brighter (Sarah Records) and co-writer and music mastermind behind electro popsters Fosca (Shinkansen Records).
Alex released the lo-fi EP ‘My Little Experiment’ (PSRCD-011) as Pinkie – named after the eponymous ant-hero from the Graham Greene novel ‘Brighton Rock’- in 2002 (…jangling guitars, pretty tunes, beautiful yet complex ..SELECT) followed by the acclaimed LP ‘Sharon Fussy’ (PSRCD-023) in 2004 (…This is passionate, monumental and mesmerizing stuff…SCTAS) and as well as this has released many songs on various compilation albums, EPs singles and things like that which probably sell for a fortune now on ebay.
Alex has just completed his much anticipated new album ‘Dreams, They’d Be There Too’ ready for release in 2011. The new album is a follow up to ‘Sharon Fussy’ and continues recognisable themes to those familiar with Alex’s work, namely orchestral soundscapes complimented by layers of guitars. It also contains a bucket of tunes of irresistible catchiness and lyrics sung with wistful reflection.
Pinkie will be playing live dates in London in the summer, with possible European dates to follow. Alex is also co-creator of the pop duo Angel Dynamite along with collaborator Andy Ekinsmyth the Brighton based DJ. An Indie-pop dance outfit very much in the mould of Saint Etienne, Angel Dynamite will releasing material and playing live dates in the forthcoming months.
