A jangly indie pop affair whose melancholy tunes nodded to the Field Mice and the Trembling Blue Stars, London’s the Sunny Street formed as a collaboration between Electrophonvintage frontman Remi Parson and vocalist Delphine. Beginning in 2006, the duo released a handful of singles on various labels, including They Hurt You Everyday, released on Lavender Recordings, a split 7″ released via Slumberland’s Searching for the Now series (the flip side of the disc featured A Sunny Day in Glasgow), and a self-titled single released on Cloudberry Records.
Their first album“They hurt you everyday + Rainy Hearts EP”, was released in January 2007 on Swedish label Lavender Recordings and, is composed of 12 tiny adorable pop moments, designed in a more introspective, synthetic, pastoral and emotional manner, reminiscent of latest Bobby Wratten essays, wrapping you up instantly in a melancholic mood.
The band would later expand to a 4 piece, with Ian and Christos joining the band as bassist and second guitar respectively. With this new lineup they played many festivals including London Popfest, Berlin Indie Pop Days and Indietracks. These days they are about to cross the Atlantic and play New York Popfest.
And now, after 4 years, their 2nd album is coming up to light. The fantastic “Hidden for Decades” continues on the route they started on their first album. It’s an ode to moonlight, to wet Wednesday afternoons, to black and white cinema. Melancholy and dreams play and intertwine over a thin line for 10 songs. Delicate and icy, elaborate and warm, The Sunny Street plays and draws music canvases with beautiful guitar and synth textures, strokes of shyness and passion.
This album is indeed a hidden treasure, a treasure that can’t wait to be unearthed. You’ll be wrapped and you won’t let go the replay button.
